Australia Splits First Two Pool Games Of 3×3 World Cup
Australia began their 2019 FIBA 3×3 World Cup campaign overnight, with the men splitting their first two pool games.
The team of Andrew Steel, Tom Wright, Greg Hire and Tim Coenraad managed to take down Brazil 21-15 in their opening match before losing to Poland 18-16 in game two.
Australia strung together an 8-1 during the Brazil game which enabled them to open up a commanding 14-7 lead midway through the game, an advantage they wouldn’t relinquish down the stretch.

The Aussies will look back at the Poland game as a missed opportunity, after leading 14-10 with under three minutes to go. Poland then caught fire from beyond the two-point line, which saw them run away winners.

Australia’s next games are against Latvia (June 21 at 12:25am AEST) and Japan (June 21 at 3:05am AEST), and with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stages, the Aussies have little room for error.
The Australian women will begin their World Cup campaign against Andorra (June 20 at 12:15am AEST) and Switzerland (June 20 at 3:05am AEST).
