3×3 Big Hustle ACT Recap

Another weekend, another 3×3 Hustle event went down over the weekend in Canberra with the ACT Big Hustle event at Belconnen Courts with a solid turn out across all categories.

The iAthletic Spectres squad showed out again in the Open Men’s competition led by Andrew Steel, who after their wins in SA last week climbed to #1 in the Australian 3×3 Rankings.

iAthletic scored solid wins on their way through to the Final against the Bus Drivers, who they beat 15-10 earlier in the day. With the title on the line, Steel and the Spectres closed it out 21-8 winning another $2,500 in the process.

The Open Women’s competition was where we saw some of the best hit the court, with three teams competing representing the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence including the likes of Shyla Heal, daughter of NBL legend Shane Heal.

Heal wasn’t the only relative with ties to a big name basketball family in Australia, with Keely Froling suiting up for the Open Women’s winners, Victorious Secret.

Froling, daughter of former NBL player Shane Froling teamed up with the 10th ranked women’s 3×3 player in Australia, Sarah McAppion to take out the competition and $2,500.

McAppion, who previously played with the Canberra Capitals has represented Australia previously in the 3×3 Asia Cup, where her team took home the bronze medal.

In the U14 Girls category, Team Mim came away with the win after some tough games in the opening rounds of competition.
