3×3 Hustle Wrap: Easter Weekend
The Easter Long Weekend brought with it plenty of chocolate eggs and a bit of 3×3 Hustle around Australia with events going down in Victoria, the Northern Territory and New South Wales.
The action kicked off out in Dandenong with an Open Men’s category for the Victorian Big Hustle. There were some big names across the board including #1 Australian 3×3 player Andrew Steel, Lucas Barker, Tommy Greer, Owen Odigie and Tom Wilson suiting up.
It all came down to a final between the two iAthletic teams, one of which was made up of veterans like Greer, Steel, Tom Wright and Simon Conn while the other were the Spectres young guns led by Barker and Odigie.
It came down to the wire but the vets got the job done, banking another $2,500 as they continued their tear in the 3×3 Hustle events so far taking out the SA, ACT and VIC events already.
Later that day, the action continue in Darwin with The Oreos winning the Open Men’s category in overtime while the TV Jets won the Open Women’s side of the event. Both squads took home $2,500 in prize money for their efforts with a solid turnout.
Monday rolled around and it was NSW’s turn to Hustle with the competition taking place in Minto with U14 boys, U16 girls, U18 boys and Open Men all running.
Storm took out the U14 boys final with a win over the Bondi Snipers squad, with the Air Ballerz winning the U16 girls and Golden Phoenix taking out the U18 boys.
The 4th ranked 3×3 player in Australia Josh Garlepp teamed up with brother Tom Garlepp from the Sydney Kings in the Open Men’s competition getting a hard fought win over Sutherland in the final 21-16.
After their win, Garlepp threw down the gauntlet to the iAthletic squad letting them know they were coming for them at the upcoming Pro Hustle events.
