Scarborough Beach Slam Is Here!
The 3x3Hustle Scarborough Beach Slam is ready to hit the shores this Easter long weekend.
From Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1, 3x3Hustle’s biggest WA Beach Slam will take place on the Scarborough Beach foreshore.
The festival of basketball will include three days of 3×3 tournaments for Opens and Juniors, dunk comps, food trucks, entertainment, and more basketball activations for the community to enjoy.
“I’d really like to thank City of Stirling for supporting the NBL 3x3Hustle, to put on these incredible events in the most amazing and beautiful location,” Head of 3x3Hustle, Jaele Patrick said.
“We’re really excited to bring our two major events over to Perth and we look forward to seeing everyone over the Easter long weekend.”
Mayor of City of Stirling, Mark Irwin, NBL’s Perth Wildcats players Jesse Wagstaff and Ben Henshall, and WNBL’s Perth Lynx and 3×3 players Anneli Maley, Amy Atwell and Miela Goodchild, all came together to launch the Beach Slam.
“We’re so pleased to be here today with 3x3Hustle, partnering with the NBL to deliver a series of events of 3×3 basketball here at Scarborough Beach,” Mayor of City of Stirling, Mark Irwin said.
“We’re really keen to not only put these events on to increase participation, but to also invest in the sport.”
Former 3×3 player and gold medal winner at the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, Greg Hire – who also got Wildcats’ Wagstaff into 3×3 – iterated the importance of 3×3 basketball providing a pathway for the younger generation.
“It’s a genuine pathway for a lot of kids from remote or regional communities that might not have the capacity to travel abroad or have the accessibility that they’re accustomed to,” Hire said.
“3×3 really removes those boundaries and challenges, as a community sport that’s what you’re trying to entice, and push, and promote.”
Perth Lynx’s Anneli Maley acknowledged the development she’s seen from participating in 3×3 basketball.
“3×3 changed the trajectory of my career, I wasn’t much of an offensive threat before I started playing. But you can’t hide in 3×3, you have to be able to shoot, pass, dribble,” Perth Lynx’s Anneli Maley said.
