The Burnie Tigers under 14 3×3 team have been nominated for The Advocate/Coles Junior Sports Awards in the Team of the Year category, which looks to reward the best performance from a Tasmanian North-West Coast team.
Burnie came second in this year’s NBL 3×3 Big Hustle nationals in Geelong, as the team of Emig French, Will Goninon, Jacob Furphy and Samuel Plapp impressed on the big stage.
French believes the team played better than they thought they were going to in Geelong.
“It was a one of a kind experience, it was totally different to our normal basketball because of the pace of the game and the atmosphere,” French said, via The Advocate.
“Some of the games really did suit us because we were very fast, but the other team in the final were bigger and we had a lot of trouble stopping them.
“I reckon we actually overachieved, we went there just looking to have fun and we played really good basketball.”
