Australia Look to Continue FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup Success
The men’s and women’s Australian 3×3 teams will look to continue their run of success at the 2019 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup after the pools were announced for the tournament that will take place in May.
Australia’s men were drawn into Group C alongside Mongolia, and one of South Korea, Malaysia, India or Vanuatu, who will face off in the qualifying draw for one of three remaining spots in the tournament. Last year, the men took home gold at the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup for the first time, with a squad comprised of tournament MVP Tom Garlepp, as well as Tom Wright, Andrew Steel and Owen Odigie.
In 2018 the women’s lineup fell in a classic semi-final to New Zealand, however they were able to overcome Japan to claim a bronze medal. This time around, the Aussies will have revenge on the agenda, being drawn with the Kiwis – as well as China – in their 2019 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup pool. Number-one ranked women’s 3×3 player Rebecca Cole will again be in the frame for national selection, as well as fellow bronze medalists Maddie Garrick, Carlie Smith, and newly crowned WNBL champion with the Canberra Capitals, Keely Froling.
The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup will take place in Changsha, China, with the Qualifying Draw being played on May 22-23, and the Main Draw on May 24-26. To get a closer look at some of Australia’s finest 3×3 talent, get involved with the 3×3 Pro Hustle Tour – head to 3x3hustle.com/prohustle for more info!
