NBL, WNBL Stars Win Big at 3×3 Pro Hustle 2 in Melbourne

The stars of the NBL and WNBL came to play and willed their sides to big money wins at the NBL 3×3 Pro Hustle 2 in Melbourne on Sunday.

Newly re-signed Adelaide 36ers guard Anthony Drmic teamed up with recently retired Brisbane Bullets big Anthony Petrie and NBL legend Peter Crawford to win another $10k for The Platypuses team, going undefeated for the second straight event.

They faced a tough Spectres-iAthletic team in the final who weren’t about to back down with FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup gold medallist Tom Wright and Simon Conn doing all they could to rally but a series of late two-point shots from Drmic all but did it for The Platypuses who won 21-17.

After winning another $10k, Crawford and Petrie make their way to Sydney this weekend for the third iteration of the 3×3 Pro Hustle however the team is expected to take on a different look.

In the women’s side of the competition we saw a rematch of the final that took place at the first Pro Hustle, with the Spectres-iAthletic women’s team going back to back as well with a win over the Deakin Melbourne Boomers.

With Bec Cole unavailable for the iAthletic team, they brought in WNBL star Alice Kunek who was instrumental all day, showing her class in the final to complete a dominant 21-9 win over Maddie Garrick and Monique Conti’s Boomers team.

Kunek was also a winner in the two-point shootout, competing alongside a young player from the Street Hustle event that took place earlier in the day.

The NBL 3×3 Pro Hustle series concludes in Sydney this weekend, with the final event taking place on Sunday, May 13. Tickets will be on sale this week. Make sure you get down to see if The Platypuses and Spectres-iAthletic can make it a three-peat!
