3×3 Big Hustle Wrap: SA and WA

The first NBL 3×3 Hustle events went down on Saturday, with Big Hustle events played in South Australia and Western Australia.

Both competitions saw U18 and Open Men’s competitions played, with the winners of the Open Men receiving $2,500 in prize money and a chance to play in the Pro Hustle later this year.

South Australia saw a late team entry with Illawarra Hawks sharpshooter Oscar Forman teaming up with former NBL and NBA big man Luke Schenscher as part of the Gym Food Australia squad.

The likes of Tommy Greer, Tom Wright, Simon Conn and the #2 ranked 3×3 player in Australia Andrew Steel made up the iAthletic Spectres team who appeared to be early favourites based on their previous success in 3×3 competition.

The two faced off in the Grand Final, with the iAthletic squad having to come from behind to claim a 19-16 win over Forman’s team banking $2,500 in the process.

In the U18 competition the Jingle Balls team came away winners after a number of competitive games.

Forman was full of praise for the new game competition after playing 3×3 for the first time, taking to Twitter to share his thoughts on his first experience in the half court game.

The action wasn’t done with WA heating up a short time after, where the #3 ranked 3×3 player hit the court. Josh Garlepp, brother of Sydney Kings forward Tom Garlepp banked some more ranking points with a 10-7 win for his Garlads team.

Garlepp teamed up with former Perth Wildcats Damien Scott and Ben Purser to get the job done winning $2,500 and a spot in the Pro Hustle.

The Spider Gang team took out the U18’s portion of the event.
